Peter Orullian was born in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1969, and lived in the same home until he eventually moved away from Utah altogether. In High School, Peter played varsity athletics, served in student government, sang with the school a cappella choir, and graduated class valedictorian.
In 1991 Peter joined a performing and recording rock band at the same time he finished his Honors thesis—a fictional work entitled SKINWALKER. That year, he graduated magna cum laude from the University of Utah with an Honors B.A. in English, and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Societies.
Two years later, he married Cathryn Royal and moved to Seattle, Washington to begin serious, classical vocal study with famed maestro David Kyle. Over the next four years, he continued his music study and began increasingly to spend his discretionary time writing. During those first years in Seattle, Peter worked for a small press as editor for a New York Times bestselling writer. He also worked as a journalist, authoring a column on voice for Progression Magazine in which he interviewed and profiled some of the great voices in popular music.
Peter later began working at Microsoft in 2002 in the Home and Entertainment division. There he's been a managing editor, website manager, and sr. marketing and product manager in the Xbox and Xbox LIVE businesses. During his stint with Microsoft, he's continued to be active musically, releasing a number of CDs with various musicians and winning along the way the Private Eye Best Male Vocalist Award. A single from one of those releases reached #2 on MP3.com.
In 2006, Peter sold his first short story to a Denise Little anthology, and has since sold numerous stories to both Denise and Marty Greenberg, as well as Orson Scott Card's Intergalactic Medicine Show. Then, in early 2009, Tor Books purchased the first three books in an epic fantasy series Peter is writing.
Peter's dual interests of music and fiction often converge, and there's a planned concept album based on one of his novels.
Currently, he is finishing up yet another recording project, and completing a thriller novel, as Peter's interests both musically and in fiction are rather diverse; and his intention is to create song and story as broad as are his interests.
Peter lives in the Pacific Northwest.
