Podcasts, and interviews, and videos, oh my!

I’ve met some really cool people lately. And these new friendships have come through some interviews these folks have been kind enough to conduct. I’ve had the chance to talk about The Unremembered, music, strong female characters, new character types, world building, Felicia Day, Xbox . . . boy, you name it.

I’ve met some really cool people lately. And these new friendships have come through some interviews these folks have been kind enough to conduct. I’ve had the chance to talk about The Unremembered, music, strong female characters, new character types, world building, Felicia Day, Xbox . . . boy, you name it. Most recently, I’ve had the chance to be interviewed by Mur Lafferty of “I Should Be Writing” fame, the Seattle Geekly crew, as well as John and Patrick over at Functional Nerds (those guys rock!). You can check them out here:

Looking at this you never guess I’m a shrinking violet. Good thing, that. ‘Cause I ain’t!

Peter Meets Peter (S. Beagle, that is)

So, nearing the end of my book tour, I found myself in San Francisco tonight. The signing was at Borderlands earlier today, after which I had some friggin’ awesome Chinese food at “The Big Lantern.”

So, nearing the end of my book tour, I found myself in San Francisco tonight. The signing was at Borderlands earlier today, after which I had some friggin’ awesome Chinese food at “The Big Lantern.”

After that, I gotback to my hotel, with a note in hand that I hadn’t paid much attention to previously. I read it on my way to my room, and realized that Peter S. Beagle would be reading tonight a few short blocks from my hotel. I’m in!

I head over and catch the reading. Then some awesome Q&A. Beagle makes everything sound smart, especially his illuminating comments about story.

Afterward, he does a signing. I purchased The Rhinocerous Who Quoted Nietzche and Other Odd Acquaintances, and had the man (the myth) sign it for me. I got a pic, too!

Then, we chatted for a while. I told him I was on my first book tour. And he began to reminisce and give me some practical advice. To paraphrase, he told me about puppies and old dogs. How pups can yap and bite the ears of older dogs; how they can get away with pretty much anything. And then how later, there just comes a point, where the old dogs stop putting up with it, and say, “Hey, you’re one of us now.” T’was a perfect metaphor.

Then, after talking about debuts and long careers, we got onto jazz. Turns out we’re both big jazz fans. How cool is that! And at the end of it, he says, “I used to think it was cool hanging around with writers. But musicans are way cooler and more fun!”

See, I knew this was a man after my own heart.

Til next time,
Peter
